FAQs
Why are data presented only for those aged 15-59 years?
This is to inform HIV testing guidelines. The rate of diagnosed HIV in this age range is used by BHIVA, BASHH and NICE testing guidelines to indicate where HIV testing should be expanded.
What does diagnosed HIV prevalence mean?
Diagnosed HIV prevalence means the number or proportion of people living with HIV infection who have been diagnosed and are attending outpatient care. It excludes people who have not been diagnosed or those who are not in care.
Why do numbers living with diagnosed HIV rise each year?
This is due to life saving treatment. People with HIV can expect to live long healthy lives. Since there are relatively few deaths in people with HIV in younger ages, and more people are diagnosed each year, numbers will rise.
